Generation one guns are more-or-less GI parts compatible, but the higher serial numbers became more heavily populated with Universal parts. The Universals are generally divided into three generations. The higher the serial number, the more Universal parts were used. Based on what we read and research, the first 8,000-or-so were heavily populated with USGI parts, even barrels.
